Princeton Office

Excellence is the foundation of our philosophy at The Digestive Health & Nutrition Center in Princeton. We are committed to leading-edge GI care, and only use treatments and techniques that have proven to be effective when resolving our patients’ gastrointestinal issues. We use the most effective procedures to help our patients who are facing GI issues. It is our goal to not only help them right now, but we want to provide ongoing care for chronic conditions and reoccurring problems.

We offer comprehensive care and use a personalized approach when managing a variety of gastrointestinal disorders. Dr. Merlo offers a variety of services, including nutrition and lifestyle support, colorectal cancer screening, the management of chronic disorders, and capsule, upper, and lower endoscopies.

It has been estimated that around 70,000,000 people experience problems that are related to digestion. This means that if you have digestive issues, you are definitely not alone. The digestive system has a unique job. It supports the body by delivering and absorbing nutrients that are essential to good health. When the digestive system is not working properly, it can cause a variety of problems, including GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux). We diagnose and provide treatment for a variety of gastrointestinal disorders, including issues that affect the intestine, stomach, liver, colon, gallbladder, and pancreas.

The Digestive Health & Nutrition Center also provides screening for various forms of gastrointestinal cancer. Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States. We offer screening examinations for colon cancer here in our offices. Additionally, we offer other diagnostic procedures including:

  • EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy). This procedure examines the lining of the stomach, esophagus, and the beginning of the small intestine.
  • Colonoscopy. This test is most commonly used to screen for colorectal cancer, and can remove polyps found in the colon that could eventually become cancerous.
  • BRAVO pH Monitoring. This is an ambulatory system that does not use a catheter. Its purpose is to give information about the correlation of distal esophageal acid exposure from gastro-esophageal reflux. The information provided by this test is extremely useful when making decisions about how individuals who experience GERD should be treated. It is an advanced monitoring system that is usually part of the care that is offered to individuals with GERD.
  • ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography). This test uses an endoscope and x-ray to closely examine the pancreatic and bile ducts.

Each individual who walks through the doors of the Digestive Nutrition & Health Center is treated with the utmost respect. We are dedicated to providing comprehensive and compassionate care to individuals who have digestive issues and liver disease. Our staff members and nursing professionals are dedicated to detail and offer courteous service to all of our patients.

We offer a wide range of gastrointestinal diagnostic services that include colonoscopy, endoscopy, and capsule endoscopy. Dr. Merlo is able to help individuals who are experiencing issues like difficulty swallowing, abdominal pain, heartburn, rectal bleeding, constipation, hepatitis, and diarrhea. Some of our other specialties include Inflammatory Bowel Disease, colorectal cancer prevention, liver disease, acid reflux, and Barrett’s esophagus.
